Education is the key of all the progress & achievement. Educational preparation of nurses, who contribute primarily towards the health of the community, needs constant attention keeping in mind the changing health needs of the society. Profession of nurse requires maintenance of clinical proficiency, critical thinking, skill, teaching & promoting uplift of patients in all clinical settings. Besides growing emphasis on public health care delivery system demographic challenges (such as increase in the number of old population), Urbanization, (stress & strains), Environmental changes, Life style changes & finally the expansion of employment opportunities, both in India & abroad are some of the factors responsible for increasing gap in demand & supply of trained nurses in the light of the changing educational system of the country. The course in Auxiliary Nursing has been reorganized into one & half year programme. The program me is geared to the health needs of the country, the community & the individual & it will serve as a basic for advanced study & specialization in nursing; it will assist nurses in their personal & professional development so that they may make their maximum contribution to the society as individual citizens & nurses. ◄ Uma Shankar ►
